Above the Clouds has many volunteer Flight Coordinators, Pilots, Ground Crew members and others that our invaluable to our programs. Due to the dedicated efforts of volunteers and an active Board of Directors, Above the Clouds can keep overhead to a minimum and maintain a lean staff of two professionals! Located at Norwood Memorial Airport, the Above the Clouds staff is eager to provide free programs to underserved youth in Boston and beyond. Meet Our Team:
Susan Tufts Kagan, Executive Director
After earning a Master’s in Educational Psychology from UCONN’s Neag Graduate School of Education, Susan Tufts Kagan moved to Boston to explore her passion for disability rights and advocacy. Ms. Tufts Kagan worked as an Inclusion Specialist for Boston Children’s Hospital, a Behavior Specialist for MediPlex Neurological Rehabilitation in Lynn, MA and then joined the Commonwealth’s Disability Rights Project under Attorney General Thomas Reilly. While working for the AGO, she launched the first website accessibility conference bringing together tech experts, large corporations and representatives from the disability community. Ms. Kagan’s work on inclusion, access and equity was recognized by the Children’s Defense Fund and the German Marshall Fund earning her fellowships to further her knowledge and to travel internationally meeting with disability rights advocates and scholars. As an experienced fundraiser and director, Susan has served as a consultant, a Development Director and Executive Director for local youth serving and disability rights organizations. Ms. Tufts Kagan loves assisting in the launch of new initiatives and the founding of new social justice organizations. Ms. Tufts Kagan has published articles on volunteerism and inclusive recreation; and, co-authored a book called “Don’t Forget the Fun: Developing Inclusive Recreation”. Susan was a competitive swimmer who coached for the Cambridge YMCA in Central Square and was an assistant coach for the Boys and Girls Club in Charlestown. She lives in Westwood with her sons Noah and Joshua and two pugs! She is excited to join the ATC team and bring joy and hope to youth through the wonder of flight.
